Scheduling an Event
I'm available for Zoom events anywhere in the world or in-person events anywhere in Portugal. I occasionally travel to the US and would be happy to discuss opportunities there. Please let me know if you are involved with a museum, historical or genealogical society, writers' group, library, bookstore, school or university, conference, book club, or another group that may be interested. Contact me at SELindsey10@gmail.com to schedule an event.
In addition to the events below, I've done presentations for numerous other organizations and entities, including Eureka Public Library in Eureka, Illinois; the Friends of Liberia; the Liberian Studies Association International Conference in 2021; the Kentucky Historical Society; Joseph-Beth Books in Lexington, Kentucky; and Women Who Write in Louisville, Kentucky.
Women's International Group (WING), Coimbra, Portugal. I was pleased to be the speaker on International Women's Day for the WING group in Portugal. I spoke about Liberty Brought Us Here, focusing on the very human immigration story that lies at the center of the book. I'm pictured here with Maria Amelia Tellechea, one of the event organizers.
Kentucky Book Festival. I was invited to participate in the Kentucky Book Festival in October 2022. This is the largest and oldest book fair in Kentucky. I had a great time and sold out of all the books I had.
Jefferson (IN) Public Library. I was pleased to be asked to record a podcast, "In the Stacks," for the Jeffersonville (IN) Public Library in late October 2022. You can listen here: https://share.transistor.fm/s/dcd97ad1.
All Peoples Unitarian Universalist Church in Louisville (KY) invited me to one of their adult discussion groups. The group was lively, interesting, and asked insightful questions. Thanks for the invitation!
Focus on Liberia: New Day. I joined Priscilla Nyenator for a discussion on the role of black and white women in the colonization of Liberia. (A small tech glitch occurs about halfway through, but then we pick up and continue. Hang in there!) https://www.facebook.com/focusonliberiaTV/videos/3206033522984138
Focus on Liberia: Literary Hour. I joined Focus on Liberia for an interview and to talk about my book. Check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/focusonliberiaTV/videos/736506617593697.
Ratosinhos de Biblioteca. I led a discussion of Liberty Brought Us Here with Ratosinhos de Biblioteca (Library Mice) book club in Coimbra, Portugal.
Kentucky Humanities "Think Humanities" podcast. I joined Bill Goodman for a podcast for Kentucky Humanities. You can listen in at www.kyhumanities.org/programs/think-humanities-podcast or visit the Kentucky Humanities on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @KYHumanities.
Harlan Family in America Reunion: I was pleased to be invited to do a presentation on my book for the Harlan Family Reunion in June 2022. Attendees were members of the same lineage as George Harlan, one of the former slave owners featured in the book. See the presentation here: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AndJJSLN0wvakrwwRWksq1PM2Kp4qQ?e=Nf8UoC
Friends of Liberia and the San Diego World Affairs Council. The first few minutes of this presentation were cut off, but you can see most of it here: https://fol.org/watch-and-meet-the-author-of-liberty-brought-us-here/
McLean County Museum of History, Bloomington, Illinois. This presentation, for the museum where the Major Collection of Letters from Liberia is housed, starts 15-20 seconds in and there are several seconds where the audio goes out at about minute 34 and then starts again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-jLQZXZjLs.
National Review Podcast. The National Review's podcast, The Bookmonger, interviewed me about my book and research. https://www.nationalreview.com/podcasts/the-bookmonger/episode-316-liberty-brought-us-here-by-susan-e-lindsey/
